Thomas A. Carlson is an assistant professor of Middle Eastern history at Oklahoma State University. His research focuses on religious and ethnic diversity of the region from Cairo to Samarqand to Constantinople between roughly 1000-1500. His teaching covers everything Middle Eastern from Muhammad to the present. He is a former co-editor of The Syriac Gazetteer, which was his introduction to Digital History. He is now developing HIMME: The Historical Index of the Medieval Middle East.
